Creating Your 2018 Game Plan

By Jessica Castle

I’ve spent the last few days helping my one-to-one clients draft their 2018 Game Plan so they can make their upcoming year the best yet…

And be one of the 8% of people who DO stick to their New Year’s Resolutions.

If you’re ready to make 2018 your best year yet too, I’d like to share with you 3 simple steps you can do yourself, to create your own winning Game Plan!

Step #1 – Find Your Keystone Habit

To kick off 2018, chose what resonates with you as the smartest healthy habit for YOU to begin in January, per your greater life goals.

In other words, what is one habit you know is holding you back, and needs to go first!

This ONE SPECIFIC thing is known as your keystone habit. A keystone habit has the power to transform your life — keystone habits correlate with other good habits, like regular exercise, healthy food choices, intermittent fasting… habits that go hand-in-hand synergistically together to build on January’s healthy habit all year long, one month at a time.

According to Charles Duhigg, author of The Power of Habit, a Keystone Habit is a small, seemingly benign habit, that inspires a whole host of positive outcomes. In this case, it’s the ONE healthy habit you can do, that would set off a whole chain-reaction of other healthy habits… because you’d now WANT to do them!

I highly recommend starting with The Math Equation, of adding in more greens and taking out the 5 common toxic trigger foods (gluten, dairy, sugar, caffeine and alcohol).

You can also follow my Mini Detox program to walk you through this!

Or you can also choose to add my free Eliminate Excuses email course to the Mini Detox, to help you create some real traction on your own!

Step #2 – Add In A New Habit Every Month

To be successful in 2018, you want to focus on ONE new healthy habit each month. Yes, Think BIG, but focus on ONE SPECIFIC thing at a time — this is the winning formula when we set out on our own to create habits that last.

If you’ve not mastered the previous month’s habit, stick with ONLY it until you feel like you’ve created mastery, even if this takes you all year long. THIS IS where oh-so-many lose out in achieving their resolutions — they take on too much at once, and then feel defeated when they feel overwhelmed by too much change!

But, once you’ve mastered your ONE Keystone Habit in January, it’s time to add in another one each month… as long as you stuck with your monthly goal.

If you’re looking for some additional healthy habits to add to your yearly goals, here’s some I recommend (and links to read more about them).

  1. Daily juicing
  2. Eliminate sugar
  3. Take out 5 common toxic trigger foods
  4. Meditation
  5. Journaling
  6. Reduce your stress
  7. Daily affirmations
  8. Surround yourself with Chants
  9. Drink more water
  10. Practice gratitude
  11. Change your inner circle
  12. Eliminate disempowering thoughts
  13. Probiotics
  14. Body brushing

Step 3: Check In With Yourself

Whether you want to make your this a quarterly activity, or just check in after the first 6 months of the year, take a moment to slow down. Take time to assess where you started the year and where you’re at now with your goals.

To assess where you’re at now, ask yourself:

  • What’s working?
  • What’s not working? If something is not working, what did I make it mean? What are my thoughts about what’s not working? Could my thoughts and what I’m making ‘it’ mean be stopping me? Could it be my thoughts and the story I tell yourself be the problem, and not the thing itself?
  • What helped me stay on course?
  • What stopped me?

Take the time to ask, answer and write down your responses in your journal, so you can track not only what worked and what didn’t work, but the stories you tell yourself about the successes you’ve achieved or the breakdowns you’ve experienced along the way. These answers are solid-gold, they’ll give you insights that can get you back in the game!

And with that – you’ve got your 2018 Game Plan!

Cheers to you making this New Year the one where you start looking and feeling your very best!

Health Hack #15 – Your Accountability Partner

By Jessica Castle

In Health Hack #15, I offer you a playful, but very effective little hack to help you gage your healthy eating and self-care practices.

Head out to your local garden shop, or to the nearby grocery store and get yourself a green plant. Humor me and try my idea. Use the vitality of your plant to mirror back to you your commitment to your own health and wellbeing.

When that plant starts to droop or die, consider this, are you moving so fast in life that you and that plant are both suffering?

Health Hack #15 might seem a ‘silly’ idea, but give it a try, you’ll see, it’s quite effective!

Do you know that 96% of people who work with a coach say they'd hire a coach again? Health Hack #14 – The Reframe

By Jessica Castle

The Reframe

There are two controlling forces in life, two forces that motivate you (or stop you) in all that you do, the desire to avoid pain or the desire to gain pleasure. To create change that lasts, to create healthy habits that last you MUST learn to learn to associate massive PAIN to not changing now, and massive PLEASURE to changing pronto, immediately, in this very moment!

Reframe. Change your thoughts, change your life.

Not possible you say? Au contraire, I say. Once a sugar-addict, I’ve transformed my whole life by challenging my thoughts about what is possible. I started with my health struggles and ALL the ways I was raised to think about food and wellness by changing how I thought about what is ‘good,’ and what is not so good to create a whole new access to life!

What are your health struggles? What are your thoughts about getting healthy and reframing? Do you think reframing can help you? Let me know in the comments below.

Health Hack #13 – The Math Equation

By Jessica Castle

The Math Equation

Health Hack #13 is a game-changer. Without implementing ‘the math equation,’ without adding in nutrient dense foods like green juices, green smoothies and meal-sized green salads every day, while simultaneously taking out processed foods and the top 5 common toxic trigger foods, getting healthy could allude you, like it did me early on in life. No one ever impressed upon me the vital importance of BOTH adding in and taking out! One alone is not enough. Both are necessary, to reclaim your most vibrant health and wellbeing, clarity of mind and soaring energy.

Leave a comment: What do you think about The Math Equation? Do you feel like you eat healthy, but are not really creating headway like you feel you should? Have you ever tried eliminating the top 5-common toxic trigger foods and processed foods simultaneously?

Health Hack #11 – Find Your Sweet Spot

By Jessica Castle

Find Your Sweet Spot

Clients often ask – do I really have to give up this, this and that?

And my response is usually “I don’t know. What are you committed to?”

Depending on what you are dealing with, yes, perhaps you should try diving in full tilt-boogie to reach your get-healthy goals.

But, if you’re new to healthy lifestyle habits, taking on too much at once could overwhelm and even thwart your efforts.

So you look for your sweet spot, that space in between challenging yourself and not overwhelming yourself.

… And the only person who can know your sweet spot is you.

In the week ahead, choose ONE get-healthy habit that you know would make a difference for you and find your sweet spot, in between challenging and not overwhelming! I’d love to hear what you choose, and how you uplevel your commitment in the comments below!

3 Reasons Your Body Wants to Detox This Spring

By Jessica Castle

Daffodils2When you think of spring, you likely think about setting the clock forward, spring cleaning, yard work, daffodils and longer days. You likely open your windows to let the sweet smell of clean, fresh air in the house, and dive into the tasks that were waiting for warmer weather to return.

What you might not think about though is, spring is also the season of internal rejuvenation and cleansing.

After a long winter, your body is ready to release accumulated waste and it stimulates the liver to cleanse the blood, tissues and internal organs of harmful toxins.

There’s only one problem…

Harmful toxins abound, in the air you breathe, the food you eat, the water you drink and … even the thoughts you think! Consequently, your body might find it very difficult to rejuvenate and cleanse you from the effects the modern lifestyle and the backed-up of toxins.

Accumulated, backed-up toxins can show up as chronic fatigue, excess weight, poor digestion and constipation.

These symptoms directly impact your ability to think clearly and creatively, focus and work productively, and more.

As Dr. Mark Hyman points out, “Pretty much everyone carries a huge load of petrochemical and industrial toxins. They come from plastics, pesticides, flame retardants, you name it. Then there are heavy metals and allergens from food or the environment, and internal toxins like bacteria, fungus, and yeast. Most people need to detoxify to get these things out of their systems in order to feel healthier.”

Hello Spring Detox!

This is why you hear more about detoxing these days, especially in spring, because you literally support your body in doing what it does — eliminating harmful toxins from the cells, tissues and organs in your body, but might be constrained by the impact of your fast-paced, fast-food lifestyle.

I offer you the top 3 reasons your body craves a detox this spring:

1. Seasonal Support

Since spring is the season of detoxification, you support your body in cleansing itself by helping your body manage the task of releasing backed-up and problematic toxins. If your body is overburdened by toxins, which in today’s world is more likely than not, your liver gets stressed and you experience symptoms like allergies and headaches, foggy thinking and fatigue, anxiety and even more chronic problems.

2. Release Excess Weight

If you are like near everyone, you eat your fair share of processed, sugary foods. Unfortunately, both trigger addiction and overeating, spike insulin and cause inflammation, which pretty much guarantees not only carrying excess weight, but losing weight too.

3. Control Food Cravings

During a whole foods detox, you take out sugar and gluten, which are both known to be biologically addictive. The science behind it is clear and conclusive, says Dr. Mark Hyman. In “Salt, Sugar and Fat,” author Michael Moss shares how more than 300 food industry insiders talked freely with him about the ways companies hire “craving experts” to create the “bliss point” of junk food to create “heavy users” and increase their “stomach share.”
